Planning Your Ministry

Ministry Preparation & Professional Requirements.

Logos University offers ministry-focused counseling education for church, ministry, and nonprofit settings. Logos does not offer licensure-track counseling programs. The Master of Arts in Christian Counseling does not meet educational requirements for state-licensed clinical practice or qualify graduates for any state mental-health licensure examination. Students are responsible for understanding the requirements for faith-based counseling in their own state or country; a degree does not establish clergy eligibility.

Entry Requirement

Graduate Foundation

Biblical and theological grounding before graduate study begins.

Admission to the Master of Arts requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, all incoming MA students must demonstrate Biblical and Theological Foundational Knowledge — a working familiarity with the Old and New Testaments as preparation for graduate-level theological inquiry.

Students who lack this foundational background may be required to complete Old Testament Survey and New Testament Survey prior to enrolling in graduate coursework. These preparatory courses are taken for institutional credit only and do not count toward the 36-hour degree requirement.

Flexible Track

Elective Courses

Two courses. Drawn from any graduate-level department.

6 Credits

Six elective credit hours allow MA students to broaden their graduate formation beyond their primary concentration. Students may select any two graduate-level courses from across the Logos curriculum — enabling cross-disciplinary engagement, supplementing weak areas, or deepening expertise in adjacent ministry domains. Elective selections are made in consultation with your academic advisor.

Culminating Work

Master's Thesis or Project

Original graduate-level scholarship in your field of concentration.

6 Credits

The Master's Thesis or Project is the culminating requirement of the MA degree — a substantive piece of original scholarship that demonstrates graduate-level competency in your area of concentration. Students are assigned either a traditional thesis (a formal academic research project) or a ministry project (an applied work that addresses a specific ministry need or challenge) based on their course of study.

The thesis or project is developed under faculty supervision and must demonstrate careful engagement with biblical and theological sources, secondary literature, and the specific demands of your ministry context. Your advisor will guide the process from proposal to completion.
